Results

While individual results may vary, results can be seen within 1 month after treatment and can last up to 2 years.

Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator that helps to restore facial skin structure by regenerating your body’s own natural collagen.

This helps to firm and smooth skin in your cheeks and jawline.  This treatment should only be administered by a trained medical professional, such as a plastic surgeon or physician associate injector.

OVERVIEW OF SCULPTRA

The process of getting a Sculptra injection typically involves the following steps:

Consultation: Your first step is to schedule your consultation. During the consultation, you will discuss your concerns, goals, and medical history. Dr. Domanski or Jennifer Borges (Physician Associate Injector) will assess your suitability for Sculptra treatment and explain the procedure, including potential risks and benefits.

Preparation: Dr. Domanski or Jennifer will cleanse the treatment area and may apply topical numbing cream if necessary. Alternatively, a numbing agent can be injected into the skin at the treatment injection sites.

Injection: Dr. Domanski or Jennifer will use a needle to inject Sculptra into the targeted areas of the face where collagen regrowth is desired. Injections are just below the surface of the skin. The number of injections will depend on your specific needs and treatment plan. You may feel a slight pinching or stinging sensation during the injections; however, this will become less and less as the Sculptra injections contain lidocaine (numbing medication).

Post-treatment care: You will need to perform daily massages to your face to help evenly distribute the Sculptra. A good rule of thumb is 5-5-5. Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days in a row.

Follow-up and maintenance: You will have at least 2 treatment sessions, sometimes 3, over the course of a couple months. The number of injections at each session will vary depending on treatment plan determined by your initial consultation and the amount of collagen growth you obtained from your first treatment session. After your second treatment session, it is recommended that you get a maintenance treatment once a year.

BENEFITS

Sculptra is the first—and original—injectable collagen biostimulator containing microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA). This treatment should only be administered by a trained medical professional, such as a plastic surgeon or a physician associate injector.

Reduction of wrinkles: Sculptra is used to correct wrinkles on the face, including cheek and chin wrinkles.

Reduction of skin folds: Sculptra helps to reduce shallow-to-deep skin folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds) which as also called “smile lines” as these folds become more prominent when smiling. Sculptra also can treat lines that frame the corners of the mouth, also called “marionette lines.”

Non-surgical treatment: Sculptra offers a non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures, such as facelifts, for individuals seeking the address the signs of aging. It is administered through injections, which are generally quick and relatively painless. You will need at least 2 sessions spaced a few months apart, followed by a yearly maintenance treatment.

Long-lasting results: While individual results may vary, Sculptra results can be seen within 1 month of your first injection session, lasting up to 2 years. A yearly maintenance treatment session can help to sustain the desired outcomes over time.

Customizable treatment: The administration of Sculptra can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient. This allows your injector to adjust the treatment based on factors such as the area being treated, the severity of the wrinkles or folds, and individual patient characteristics.

Jowls: Sculptra may be used to improve the appearance of sagging skin along the jawline.

RECOVERY

Recovery after Sculptra treatment is typically minimal, and most individuals can resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure. Here are some common aspects to consider regarding the recovering process:

Immediate post-treatment effects: After receiving Sculptra injections, you may experience some temporary side effects at the injection site such as swelling, pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, lumps, and/or bleeding. Small bumps can be felt when pressing on the skin on the treated areas. These effects are usually mild and resolve quickly within a few hours to a few days.

Post-treatment massaging: You will need to perform daily massages to your face to help evenly distribute the Sculptra. This can help prevent lumps of product from forming underneath the skin. A good rule of thumb is 5-5-5. Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days in a row.

Resuming regular activities: In most cases, you can resume your regular activities immediately after Sculptra treatment. There are typically no restrictions on exercise of strenuous activity.

Onset and duration of results: The results of Sculptra can typically be seen within a month after your first treatment, with optimal results achieved after a few months. The duration of the results can vary but generally last up to 1 to 2 years. A regular yearly maintenance treatment session is recommended to sustain the desired outcome.

Possible side effects: Temporary side effects at the injection site such as swelling, pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, lumps, and/or bleeding. Small bumps can be felt when pressing on the skin on the treated areas. These effects are usually mild and resolve quickly within a few hours to a few days. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported. Sculptra should not be injected into the blood vessels as it may cause vascular occlusion, infarction, or embolic phenomena.

Follow-up appointments: Depending on your treatment plan and goals, your healthcare professional will want you to schedule your second treatment session 6-8 weeks after the first session. After your second treatment, a yearly maintenance treatment session is recommended.
