PAIN MANAGEMENT

Special combinations of over-the-counter pain medications can be used to minimize discomfort.

Split ear lobe repair or stretched ear lobe repair is a procedure that can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. Patients say it’s like going to the dentist – but nobody is in your mouth!

Repairing torn or stretched ear lobes is a common procedure. We recommend patients email or text our office pictures of their ear lobes. Based on these pictures, we can provide a custom price quote, and then schedule the patient for the procedure without the need for a separate pre-procedural visit.

OVERVIEW OF EAR LOBE REPAIR

Topical cream may be first applied to the ear lobe to numb the area. This is the same numbing cream we use for lip filler or other cosmetic treatments. Then a small amount of numbing medication is injected to block the great auricular nerve, providing excellent local anesthesia. Afterwards, patients will feel touch, pulling, but no pain.

For torn earlobes, a fresh surface is re-created and then the edges of the ear are stitched together with deep and superficial sutures. This is referred to as the side-to-side closure technique. Topical antibiotic medication is applied, and patients can drive themselves home.
For gauged ears, there are several techniques. The purse-string closure, anterior-posterior flap modification, or local tissue rearrangement procedure will be selected based on the anatomy of the gauged ear.

Whether you have stretch, split or gauged ear lobes, Dr. Domanski is an expert in his field that consistently delivers desired results. You can view his outcomes in the Before & After gallery.

BENEFITS OF EAR LOBE REPAIR

Repairing torn or stretched ear lobes is a common procedure. We recommend patients email or text our office pictures of their ear lobes. Based on these pictures, we can provide a custom price quote, and then schedule the patient for the procedure without the need for a separate pre-procedural visit. We find that this saves patients time and increases satisfaction.

Stretched ear lobes, also called ear gauging, can also be repaired. The indication for repairing a gauged ear is a patient’s desire to do so. Many patients like their gauged ears but can no longer continue to use their ear plugs. Some patients develop recurrent infections, scarring, or skin sensitivity problems from gauged ears. Other patients develop “blow outs” from too thin skin.

In these cases, earring hole repair surgery is a popular option.

Split ear lobe repair or stretched ear lobe repair is a procedure that can be performed in the office under local anesthesia. Patients say it’s like going to the dentist – but nobody is in your mouth!

After a successful repair, it may be possible to wear earrings again!

CANDIDATES

An ideal candidate is somebody with a torn or stretched earlobe that wants it repaired! We respect patients’ needs, desires and autonomy. If you like your ears, we like them too! If you don’t, we are here to help.

RECOVERY AFTER EAR LOBE REPAIR

The ears lobes are initially numb, like going to the dentist. Most patients do not require any narcotics. We advise patients on special combinations of over-the-counter pain medications that can be used to minimize discomfort.

Patients are allowed to shower the next day. Our surgical technique allows patients to get their stitches wet and wash their faces normally.

Sutures are removed in one week. Follow-up care is included in the procedure at no additional charge. We provide scar cream as part of a patient’s ear lobe repair package because we are invested in the patient’s results.

After around six weeks, re-piercing can be considered.
