Surgical Recovery in Northern Virginia
Written by Mark Domanski, M.D.
McLean is not Miami! Patients in Northern Virginia need to get back to work. Can’t miss the next “Status Update Meetings” or “Check-the-Box Training?” This guide for plastic surgery recovery is for you!
In general, I like my patients to be back at work within 2 weeks of a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. More or less time may be needed depending on the procedure and the requirements of a patient’s job. A teacher may need more time. Patient who work from home may not miss any work. In general, jobs that require prolonged standing, lifting, or high energy output may require additional recovery time, while desk-based roles are often easier to resume sooner.
Here is a general guide:
| Procedure | Length of Recovery: Can work from home |
Length of Recovery: Active job (e.g. teacher, nurse) |
| Abdominoplasty | 2 days | 2-3 weeks |
| Armlift | 2 days | 2 weeks |
| Breast augmentation | 1-2 days | 2 weeks |
| Breast lift | 1 day | 1 week |
| Eyelid lift | 2 days | 10 days |
| Facelift | 3 days | 2-3 weeks |
| Liposuction, small volume | 1 day | 1 day |
| Liposuction, large volume | 1 day | 2 weeks |
| Mommy Makeover | 3 days | 3 weeks |
| Necklift | 2 days | 2 weeks |
| Tigh lift | 2 days | 2-3 weeks |
Summary–Surgical Recovery in Northern Virginia
Patients tend to recover more smoothly with advance planning: schedule surgery around lighter work periods, arrange short-term help at home, and communicate expectations with employers, arrange a childcare help. Following post-op instructions closely—especially activity restrictions—can shorten downtime and prevent setbacks, helping you return to productivity safely and confidently.
If you live in Fairfax, Arlington, McLean, Woodbridge, or nearby, you can’t take months to recover! You have “Legacy Systems” to navigate, “Mandatory Training Verification,” and need to “Justify Daily Work.” Its Northern Virginia after all! 🙂
Sincerely,
