How to prepare for your neck lift consultation

Written by Dr. Mark Domanski

No makeup for your neck lift consultation

Avoiding makeup will allow your surgeon to evaluate your skin better.  Since makeup makes us look better, your surgeon may not pick up on irregularities or skin texture issues that  are important to you.  That is why you are covering them up with makeup!

Wear your hair normally

Neck lift incisions are hidden behind the ears.  If you normally wear your hair back, do so on the consultation.  This will facilitate an honest discussion with your surgeon about scar placement and strategy.

Review your medications

Surgeons will often not perform a lower rhytidectomy (medical term for neck lift) on patients who take blood thinners, and delay a neck lift on a patient taking Asprin or Ibuprofen. Your medications will also key your surgeon into your medical conditions, and help them evaluate your feasibility for surgery.

Review your schedule ahead

Many surgeons offer a credit for booking a surgery on the consultation date.  Look through your calendar to understand when you can have time off for the procedure and recovery.  It will be useful to have an adult drive you home from the surgery center and stay with you for the first 24 hour after anesthesia.

Many neck lift surgeons see their patients in the first 1-4 days after a neck lift, to remove the dressings.  Ensure that you have transportation to and from this critical follow up appointment.
